Neuro-Rehabilitation Techniques for the
Physical Therapist Assistant
by Bradley Bechard, PT, PTA

Neuro-rehabilitation Techniques for the PTA explores the various methods of encouraging greater independence and quality of movement through assessment of the patient’s alignment at the trunk and extremities. These methods include the Bobath’s Neurodevelopmental Techniques (NDT), developmental sequencing, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), and sensory integration to allow your patient the greatest functional outcomes possible. Emphasis will be on handling techniques to either facilitate or inhibit certain movement patterns to assist your patient through supine to standing and finally
throughout the phases of gait. Various scenarios, video, and lab activities will be included to demonstrate
impairments commonly seen with patients suffering from a neurological deficit.
